How are pallets wrapped/secured for transit?

A variety of methods are used. Stretchwrap film is easy to apply and effective. It lends itself to pallet wrapping. It is an established way of securing loads in transit. Stretchwrap film can be applied by hand or machine.

Why would I wrap a pallet with stretchwrap film?

Products stacked on a pallet, if they are not secured, will still be free to move in transit. It does not take much effort to push a stack of boxes over. A load that moves in transit gets damaged. It can prove to be very costly. It not only runs the risk of being rejected when delivered, but there is the added burden of returned items, and then there is the re-packing & cost of a second shipment. An effective way of securing a load to a pallet, is to wrap the pallet load with stretchwrap.

What is a pallet wrapper?

A pallet wrapper is a machine that rotates a turntable on which a pallet of product is located. As the turntable rotates, a wrapping arm moves up & down and applies a layer of stretchwrap film. The stretchwrap film then acts to secure the load to the pallet and holds the product stable in transit.

Why would I use a pallet wrapper?

Hand wrapping is a physically demanding job with inherent dangers. Becoming dizzy whilst walking around the pallet, potential risk of burn on un-protected hands from the roll unwinding as the pallet is wrapped, and the risk of back ache from the continued stooping to ensure that the bottom of the pallet is wrapped properly, are some of the common problems encounted when hand wrapping. These can be eliminated when a pallet wrapping machine is utilised.

What's the payback from a pallet wrapper?
